The soprano is my personal favourite size of uke: small but perfectly formed. The neck meets the body at the 12th fret. Built to my own design (but inspired by the old Martin uke), it has power, volume, and a sweet tone, making it the perfect rhythm ukulele.
Mahogany is a great material for making ukuleles - it was the Martin Guitar Company's wood of choice when they made their classic ukes. This antique mahogany was repurposed from a carpenter friend and gives a wonderful sound. This is a really beautiful instrument and is finished in Tru Oil to give a slightly shiny finish. It sounds absolutely terrific, with a sweet tone and a powerful punch when you need it. 12 frets, Der Jung geared tuners and Aquila Strings.
It measures roughly 54cm (length), 16cm (widest width) and 5cm (depth). The rosette has very slight gaps in it (see pics) which some would say adds character but is reflected in the lower price:
